EV Charger Installation in North New Jersey

Charging at home is the best part of owning an electric vehicle — when it's done right. Bright Ideas Electric installs Level 2 home charging stations across North New Jersey, from Ringwood and West Milford to Mahwah, Wyckoff, and Franklin Lakes.

We've installed chargers of every kind: Tesla Wall Connectors, Emporia and ChargePoint home units, and commercial charging pedestals. Every installation includes a proper load assessment, a dedicated circuit sized for your charger, and a clean, weather-rated finish whether it's mounted in your garage or outside.

If your panel doesn't have the capacity for a charger, we'll tell you up front and give you a clear price for the service upgrade — we do both, so there's no finger-pointing between contractors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 charging?
Level 1 charging uses a standard 120V outlet and adds roughly 3-5 miles of range per hour — fine for emergencies, frustrating for daily use. Level 2 charging runs on a dedicated 240V circuit and typically adds 25-40 miles of range per hour, fully charging most EVs overnight. Nearly all of our customers choose a Level 2 installation.
Will my electrical panel support an EV charger?
It depends on your service size and what else your home runs. A Level 2 charger usually needs a 40-60 amp dedicated circuit. During the free estimate we do a load calculation; many homes are fine as-is, and if yours needs a panel or service upgrade we'll quote both together so you know the full picture up front.
Can you install a charger outdoors?
Yes. We install weather-rated chargers and enclosures suitable for New Jersey winters, with proper conduit, GFCI protection where required, and mounting that keeps cords managed and out of the way.
Which EV charger brands do you install?
All major brands — Tesla Wall Connector, Emporia, ChargePoint, JuiceBox, Grizzl-E, and others. If you haven't bought a unit yet, we're happy to recommend one based on your vehicle, panel capacity, and budget.
How long does an EV charger installation take?
A straightforward garage installation near the panel is usually done in a few hours. Longer wire runs, exterior mounting, or a panel upgrade add time. Most installations, including cleanup, are finished in a single visit.
Are there incentives for installing a home EV charger in New Jersey?
New Jersey utilities and the state have offered various EV charging incentive and rebate programs, and they change over time. Check with your utility (PSE&G, JCP&L, or Rockland Electric) for current programs — and ask us during your estimate; we'll flag anything we know applies.
