Frequently Asked Questions

What electrical work does a new pool actually need?
At minimum: a dedicated circuit for the pump (and another for a heater or heat pump if you have one), GFCI protection, an emergency disconnect visible from the equipment, underground conduit from the house or a pad-mounted subpanel, and equipotential bonding of the shell, reinforcing steel, and metal parts within reach of the water. We size and permit all of it as one package with your pool contractor's equipment list.
Is a hot tub wired the same way as a pool?
Similar rules, smaller package. Most hot tubs need a dedicated 240V GFCI-protected circuit, a disconnect within sight of the tub, and a properly sized feed — often 40–60 amps. Plug-in 120V portable spas are the exception, and even those need a GFCI-protected receptacle in the right location. We will spec the circuit from the tub's nameplate, not a guess.
Can you wire a pool or hot tub that is already installed?
Yes. Retrofit work is common — a new pump that needs a larger circuit, a missing bonding grid a home inspector flagged, a hot tub that was 'temporarily' run on an extension cord. We inspect what is there, tell you what has to change to meet code, and quote just that.
Do I need a permit for pool or hot tub electrical in New Jersey?
Yes. Pool and spa electrical work is permitted and inspected. We pull the electrical permit and meet the inspector — it is included in the job, not a separate errand for you.
The panel is on the other side of the house from the pool. Is that a problem?
No. Long runs are normal. We trench conduit to the pad and, when the load or distance calls for it, install a small subpanel at the equipment so pumps, heaters, and lights each have a proper breaker. That is cleaner and more serviceable than one giant homerun with a pile of disconnects.
