Bright Ideas Electric installs hardwired outdoor and landscape lighting across North New Jersey — deck post-cap and stair lights, path and accent lighting, security and motion fixtures, and photocell or smart-switch control so it actually comes on at dusk. The photos on this page are our work: a deck where the stairs and rail posts are lit evenly, with no cords in sight.

We install during a deck or landscape build while the framing is open, and we retrofit finished decks and yards by fishing cable through posts and running burial-rated conduit where it belongs — underground, not stapled along the rim joist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Low-voltage landscape lighting or regular 120V fixtures — which should I get?
Low-voltage (typically 12V LED) is the right call for path lights, post caps, stair treads, and accents — it is safer outdoors, dimmable, and easy to add to later. Line-voltage 120V is better for floods, garage and entry fixtures, and anything that needs real punch. Most yards get both, on separate controls. We design around how you actually use the space at night.
Can you add lighting to a deck or landscape that is already finished?
Yes. We fish cable through posts and rim joists, use surface raceway only where it will not show, and trench burial-rated conduit for anything crossing the yard. A retrofit takes longer than wiring during the build, but you do not have to tear the deck apart to get the look in those photos.
Do outdoor lights need GFCI protection?
Yes — outdoor receptacles and most outdoor lighting circuits require GFCI protection under current code, plus wet-location-rated fixtures and covers. We build that in rather than adding a GFCI deadfront as an afterthought, and we locate devices where snow and sprinklers will not drown them.
Will this survive a North Jersey winter?
That is the whole point of a hardwired install over stick-on kits. We use wet-location fixtures, outdoor-rated cable and fittings, and drainage so water does not sit in the posts or boxes. Cheap puck lights that were never meant for a freeze-thaw cycle are what fail every spring.
Can the lights come on automatically at dusk, or work with Alexa?
Yes. Photocells and astronomical timers are the simple version — on at dusk, off at a set time. Smart switches and home-automation scenes are the version that also ties into the rest of the house. We install either, and we can put security floods on motion while the deck stays on a photocell.
